With Valentine’s Day soon approaching, we wanted to highlight how you can give your hair some TLC. After all, looking after your hair properly post-treatment can really help to maintain that new hair feel, and help you save money in the long run. Here are our top tips to help you stay on top of your tips…

After a blow-out, avoid touching your hair regularly.

Remember, your fingers carry oil and grease, so constantly adjusting your hair with your hands will lead to unnatural oils ruining your volume post treatment. We understand the temptation of running your hands through fresh locks, but trust us, this is a fail-proof way of undoing a lot of your hairdresser’s hard work.

Conditioner is damaged hair’s best friend.

If you’re struggling with damaged hair and have recently undergone salon treatment to help regain the mane, we recommend keeping off the shampoo for good. Instead, make sure that you treat your locks to a deep condition treatment each week, massaging the conditioner into the hair and leaving on for ten minutes before washing out. To provide that extra dose of self-love, consider applying a weekly hair mask to help combat any stressed-out ends.

After dyeing, leave your mane for 48 hours without washing.

Doing so will allow enough time for the dye to settle fully and evenly. In the dire situation of an oily scalp, don’t hesitate to lightly apply some dry shampoo onto your roots. Once the dye has settled, be selective of your shampoos and conditioners - ensure that they are designed for coloured hair. And if you opted for a brighter shade, make sure to book regular colour touch-ups every few weeks to guarantee lasting vibrancy.

Hold off on the heat.

Blow-drying, curling, and straightening are the three key culprits of poor condition, known to leave your hair dry and sensitive. We all know that colour looks best on glossy, healthy hair, so maintaining condition is key for long-lasting hues. If you can’t help avoiding the heat, then fear not – there are plenty of excellent heat protective sprays available to help protect your hair from heat of up to 220°c.

Stay away from the rays.

We’re all partial to a little bit of fun in the sun, but without the right tools, UV rays can seriously fade your fresh colour. Exposing your hair to the sun for prolonged periods should be avoided, and always, always check that your post-colour products contain SPF to avoid dulling down your stunning new hues.

It goes without saying that there will always be a point where a trip to the salon is a necessity, but we also know just how important it is to look after your hair to keep it in its best condition for as long as possible. So, the next time you’re strutting out of the seat, make sure to follow these pearls of wisdom for better lasting results.
